Photo Album

Introduction

This is just a brief introduction to the new Photo Album. It needed to have some sort of logical structure, to allow it to grow and to be modified without needing major surgery. It now opens to six albums, one for my Anderson branch, one for the Kayll side, one for waifs and strays (those photos that are unidentified), and now two user contributed albums. Within each sub-album, further sub-albums are placed, for any family group with more than one or two photos. Clicking on an album opens it and displays any sub-albums and thumb-nail pictures. Where a picture is largish, its size and a smaller version's size may be clicked on to open whichever you prefer. Watch out for over-spill! If there are more than nine thumb nails on a page, there'll be a link near the bottom to a second page, which is easy to miss.

Whilst it would be possible to allow interested viewers to add their own pictures directly, I originally decided to disable this feature, in order to ensure the structure is maintained. However, I've now enabled this.  Anyone may view, without needing to log-in. There is provision for you to add comments regarding any picture, which get to me via email.[not sure about this last bit.] To add a comment, it is necessary to register. This is very simple, and just needs you to give yourself a user-name and provide your email address. You will then get a welcome email containing a link which you click to provide a password for yourself. For heaven's sake, not your bank-account one! Your details will be remembered for when you next login.

If anyone has any suitable pictures, and doesn't want to add them directly, then just email them to me and I'd be pleased to add them. (See top of home page.) As it is a family history site, I'm especially interested in older pictures, or any which are unusual. I'd also appreciate any constructive comments!

Finally, just a word of caution regarding adding photos yourself.  It's advisable to use jpg format, and to keep the file size under 2Mbytes.  The program can handle larger ones, but my ISP's setup can't at the moment
